The President that still has so many fans, is and will always be Abraham Lincoln. There are movies out about the President Lincoln, but this is one I enjoyed about his time as a young man and his time as a Lawyer. Henry Fonda did one amazing job, and is such an amazing actor. Henry Fonda was a normal sized man, and to reach the height of the President, Fonda had to wear special shoes for this project. Fonda also turned down the part at first, and felt that he could not portray such a great man. But when John Ford personally asked him, and had him test with makeup, after viewing his footage, Fonda changed his mind. Did you know that in the movie, before it was cut out, there was a scene where Lincoln met his future assassin, John Wilkes Booth? But John Ford decided it would be best to cut that out, which is probably a better choice.
Young Abraham Lincoln (Henry Fonda) is in love with Ann Rutledge (Pauline Moore). Lincoln is unable to decide what he wants to do in life, but knows whatever it is, he will try his best to keep himself honest. He lived in a cabin in Kentucky and very much wanted to see the world, but how? He was in love, and most likely wanted to stay in Kentucky to be with his interest, but he also had a career path that he wanted to pursue, to be a lawyer. Ann believed in him, and wanted Abe to go forward in that path, she ended up dying before seeing him pursue his career but Abe kept her informed through prayer. Lincoln moves to Springfield, Illinois and becomes a lawyer. Although not very well known yet as a successful lawyer, he moves forward in taking up littler problems of Springfield. On the Fourth of July, Lincoln joins the town in a parade. There is a murder and the two men accused are being thrown into jail and the whole town wants them dead, hung! Lincoln decides to follow his heart, and defend two men that are just trying to make things right. I have seen many movies where court is involved and Henry Fonda does an amazing job at defending. Example, 12 Angry Men! And then this wonderful film. Find out what happens to the two, to the town, "criminals!" You'll enjoy every minute.
